I don't believe in Hell or eternal damnation or anything like that.
I have always thought that to discipline or punish an evildoer, perhaps the best thing would be to give them a conscience and an awareness of the harm they have caused. Then, forgive them and give them peace.
Hopefully if there is a God, he/she is better than us, not meaner than us.
no teaching in the bible is clearer, more consistent, than the one which teaches that women are inferior to men.
below i show that it is taught that the woman was created from man, for man, that man is the glory of god, but woman is not.
furthermore, the evangelist paul says that he'll not abide women teaching men, and he refers to genesis to explain why.
I am not the scholar that so many of you are, so I can't back anything up by quoting the bible.
Would not the men who wrote these passages be a reflection of their own society? They were Jewish men, right, so fairly paternalistic? Would anything else be beyond their comprehension. At that time, women's role was very much to take care of the home, partly due to the fact they had no control over their fertility. Babies came when they came. The men had the power, and how often does anyone give up power.
Too much has changed in the past 2000 years, and men’s and women's roles along with it. The lives we live, could not even be imagined by the Bible writers. Even translators can put their own spin on things.

OK, I am is the typical outsider who doesn’t understand. How can he believe in most of the WT teachings after the way he is being treated by them. Does he mean he still believes in the religious theology of the JW, but rejects the organization that has rejected him? How can the single blood issue be separated, when he is being shunned? Does he think the shunning is OK? The turning his family against him???? I’m so confused.
I feel terribly sorry for this poor, unhappy man, and he must be so overwhelmed and lonely he can’t even think. I can’t even blame him, if he just wants to go back to where he was, before all this. If he can get forgiveness eventually, maybe he can regain his family and whole cultural and social life. Everyone is different, and maybe he just desperately wants his old life back.
I personally would have a very hard time not rejecting something that is kicking me, as hard as the Watchtower is kicking him right now. I guess everyone is different, and has different needs. The poor, poor man!
I am going to try and listen here, in the West and see if I can hear it with the time delay.

i ordered it from amazon.com and it took almost three months to receive it.
I just put it on reserve at the library. I'm very curious to read it, and hope that it doesn't "disappear" before I get it. There are other books I have tried to get at the library, and all their copies don't ever get returned.
the relating to non-jw's thread made me think a lot about myself and where i am and what im doing now.
i have to figure out where im going wrong!
has anyone had similar experiences to me as far as relationships with non-witnesses are concerned?.
Matty, please don't lump all of us worldlings together. You will find that some people are interested in religion and philosophy and will be fascinated by your JW experiences, and others are interested in hockey or football or fashion. No one will want to talk about it all the time, but some people are more interested in that kind of stuff than others. You may find that when you find someone more than superficially interested in YOU, they will also want to know more about your early life. Someone who has had no significant difficulties in their own life, may also have a harder time understanding why you can't just "get over it". It all varies from person to person, not whether they are JW, Catholic, Buddist, Pentacostal or just plain don't believe in God at all..
i heard a sermon by a tv evangelist yesterday (a fellow by the name of hagee).
i normally don't watch this stuff, but it was specifically pointed out to me.. he was talking about marraige, and he made a point that has stuck with me.
he said that if a person is not willing to tollerate any disagreement with their ideas, then that person is likely motivated by insecurity and fear.
That is an interesting, good point Runningman. I like the philosophy of "agree to disagree", which allows for others the right to have their own opinion, even though I may not like or agree with that opinion.
i don't know if anyone has said this before, but i wanted to say a big thank you to all of you non-jw's who have put up with us and stayed with us and helped us out so much.. i know offhand: jerome, detective, and hawkaw.
i know there are many many more of you, but please step up here and take a very well-deserved bow and get a very well-deserved hand from me and from others..

detective, you really hit the nail on the head. It was the double life, and things not adding up that made me curious enough to look into JW. You are so correct, that very few outsiders have any idea what being a JW is all about, and the really horrible way that they treat each other unless they toe the line.
